War Child - The Silent Army - the real stories

Met with an old fellow-uganda worker yesterday, Ernst. We happened to work a bit toghether in uganda in 2002. Now he works for WarChild and has lived in the North of Uganda for 4 years. He's traveled and lived to other war-devistated area's as well to allow Children to deal with these war-traumas trough sports, music and arts.
You can imagine it was an exciting night, with lots of 'ah-ha'moments as we were catching up on our past 7 years!

We will meet again and see how we can help eachother out! Look at the link for some background on WarChild. They are big in the Netherlands.

Our friends Vasthi and Martin in South Africa

This week we heard some difficult messages from our friends in South Africa. We post this so YOU CAN PRAY FOR THEM. When you're on the cutting edge of ministry and development work - you always get the biggest hits. We're praying for you guys. You guys are amazing.

Well I am so glad that this week is over! It has been horrible! We started the week with my staff and 3 teenage British female visitors getting hijacked at gun point! The gun men took the truck and ALL the equipment that we use for our kids club program. The police found the truck but it has been relieved of its wheels and the police are also making it very difficult for us to get it back! Yet again corruption wins. We are hoping that some time this week we will be able to get it back...I'm not holding my breath! So after all that died down and everyone involved had some counselling......I got attacked by a dog! Yep me....the BIGGEST dog fan in the world...attacked by a dog! I spent Saturday morning in A&E getting a load of jabs to try and prevent Rabies from kicking in and taking hold of my system. I don't deal well with needles and I have to go back for another 4 shots in the coming weeks!I really feel like we are under attack and I'm not enjoying it. Please pray for us and our ministries. Thanks!

Maelle and Emeth

Everybody always tells you that when you have a second child, the first one always gets a bit jealous. I guess they are right, but more than anything MAELLE LOVES IT!!!
Love this picture!
Everyday mom and Maelle sit with Emeth, just to chill :)
When Emeth gets a gift, Maelle makes sure she enjoys it too - in any kind of way!

Google goes to Uganda: Search with your mobile

Any article that has 'Uganda' and 'Google' and 'internet' in it, is exciting to me! In the article you can read how Uganda is the first country where people can SMS a search question and get a response back by SMS! Sinse most people in Uganda would have a mobile phone WAY BEFORE they ever have a laptop, this can really help people in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Imagine a mother than needs to know a health question, concerning her sick child...

Remember where you came from...

At the moment Tatiana, Maelle and I live in 'Korte Akkeren', Gouda. It's a neighborhood that's 'bad!', or so people say...

I had to laugh tonight when somebody sent me a little map of the neighborhood. It had nothing to do with the hood being bad, it was an invite to all the people of my church who live in this hood. When I looked at the map, I thought of Bushwick... the neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY, we lived in for 8 years... Than I got a bit side-tracked, and I desided to make a little illustration on the 2 'hoods'...

The green cross is where we live, the red dots are 'problem spots' in the different neighborhoods :)
